What does Reiki feel like?

I have heard this question many times---What does Reiki feel like? What if I don't feel anything? Did it still work?

It is definitely a very valid question, especially if you are new to the world of energy healing. I can relate--as I was first introduced to Reiki through an employer of mine almost 7 years ago. I was a nanny at the time in Connecticut. My employer was a breast cancer survivor and had used Reiki as a form of healing during her battle with the disease. She was so impressed by the effect Reiki had on her during her treatment that even after her cancer went into remission she continued to use Reiki as an ongoing wellness treatment.

I was really interested in learning about Reiki and its potential to help people with their struggles, so when I moved back home to Wyoming I sought a Reiki practitioner. There was only one in the small town I was living, but she was an excellent conduit to the energy. I don't remember ever really feeling anything amazing during the session, but was more relaxed than anything. After the session, though, I really did feel better and would see her periodically for a treatment and her intuitive guidance.

It would be years later before I myself became attuned to the Reiki energy. I was very nervous that I wouldn't feel the energy after I was attuned to it. My instructor assured me that it didn't matter if I did--some students felt heat from their hands, others did not--either way, the Reiki was there. I need not have worried as I was later attuned to the first level of Reiki and learned how to do my self-treatment, I was in awe by the heat exuding from the palms of my hands. It was surreal! I was exstatic to have had that experience. But I will tell you, it is not always that intense for me--sometimes I really feel heat and energy moving off my hands, but other times, I do not. The same goes for those I have given treatments to...some report the heat is very strong while others feel nothing. I will tell you, though, the times that I have not felt much are the times that I have received reports of how wonderful an impact the Reiki energy had on the patient that day. I received an e-mail once, after a seemingly so-so session telling me essetnitally, "I don't know what you did or how you did it but it worked! My neck has no pain now! " I was thrilled to have been the source for the flow of Reiki to work through me and for another indivuidal.

So, to make a story short---that you may or may not feel much during a Reiki session. It depends on how you perceive such things, but I can assure you, that no matter what, the Reiki will do it's thing...healing and helping whatever parts of you, physical or mental, emotional or even psychological, that need help. And the more you experience Reiki the more you will be sure of this, too.
